Idea
Build an app called Groupr for finding and joining in-person gaming groups. Whether you’re into board games, tabletop RPGs, or other social games, Groupr helps you connect with local players and discover games happening near you.
The core problem: it’s surprisingly hard to find other people to play with in person. Facebook groups are noisy, Reddit is hit or miss, and game store bulletin boards are outdated. Groupr would be a dedicated space for this community.
Key Features (High-Level)
- Group discovery — Browse local gaming groups by game type, location, and skill level
- Event listings — Groups can post one-time or recurring game nights
- Game library tagging — Tag what games your group owns or plays
- Player profiles — List your experience level, favorite games, and availability
- Join requests — Request to join a group; group organizers approve members
Milestones
- Define scope — Nail down MVP features and pick the tech stack
- Design the data model — Users, groups, events, games, and memberships
- Build auth + profiles — User signup, login, and basic profile pages
- Group creation + discovery — Create a group, tag it by game type, make it searchable
- Event system — Organizers post events, members RSVP
- Launch a test group — Use it with a real local group to find pain points
- Iterate — Fix what’s broken, polish what works, then think about wider release
What’s Next
- Research existing apps (Meetup, Tabletop Finder, etc.) to identify gaps
- Sketch out core screens and user flows
- Decide on tech stack (leaning toward a mobile-first web app)
- Write up the data model
