About

Hey, I'm Shai

I'm a trans guy based in the Pacific Northwest. Originally from Arizona, I moved up here because I love the rain, and the mountains, and the trees — not to mention tech jobs and better healthcare protections. That was 2017, and some things change, some don't.

I've spent a decade working as a software engineer, primarily focused on backend service design, software infrastructure, and site reliability. It's a field that, among many others, is undergoing a radical transformation due to the emergence of AI.

I care deeply about building things that are functional, reliable, and maintainable. I also care about the process — building things efficiently and effectively. For many projects, software or otherwise, AI agents are an incredibly powerful tool, significantly accelerating the process of bringing an idea to life.

There are, of course, new challenges with adopting AI, as with any new technology. Ethical questions that felt hypothetical until they weren't. I have *so many* thoughts on this, and real concerns about how this new technology is already impacting us and our world. But ultimately, AI is here. And it does no one any good to pretend it doesn't exist.

This blog is an exercise in exploring this new landscape. The posts are written with help from Claude AI. The projects are real, the experiences are mine, and I review everything before it goes up. I'm figuring out how best to work with AI — not just as a shortcut, but as an integral part of how I problem solve and build new things. This is where I document that process: what I'm working on, decisions I'm making, and what I'm learning along the way.

If that sounds interesting to you, stick around.
